Hegra — the archaeological site also known as Al-Hijr and widely searched as Madain Saleh (Mada'in Salih) — is one of AlUla’s essential visits. The key is not simply booking a ticket — it is choosing the right time and protecting enough space in your itinerary for the full experience.
In summer, start at the beginning of the day: the visit involves a lot of walking and it can get hot. In winter, midday is best, when the sun warms the site.
Allow three to three and a half hours in total, including transfers, waiting and crowds, especially in the winter season. Treat this as a fixed block in your day rather than squeezing Hegra between other reservations.
